 Max - Blind

Special Needs

MaxBlind1.jpg  MaxBlind3.jpg

Max2.JPG

My name is Max and I am an extra special boy because I am blind in both eyes.  I am only 10 months old and my previous owners did not even know I was blind.  A nice lady found me and took me to the local shelter.  Since I had a rabies tag on the shelter employees were able to find my family who said they did not want me.  I am so happy to be in rescue now where I will be safe and well cared for.  I am really sweet and enjoy life in the same ways seeing boxers do.  Check back soon for an update on Max.

Carter

Carter is a 10 month old white boxer found roaming around the Ft. Knox area. He is in the process of being fully vetted. More will be posted as we all learn about Mr. Carter. Please check back on this sweet, young boy. We will be posting other pics as this young guy improves.

Rowdy

Rowdy is a big muscular boy and just that.....rowdy. He loves to run and get down and dirty. He gets along great with other dogs, both male and female, however, he does not like aggressive males. Rowdy is a fence jumper.....he stays within sight and does not take off, he just has to see what's on the other side and usually it is another dog to play with. We are working on this issue and have made progress but, this training will need to continue in his new home. This is the only bad habit we have found with Rowdy and despite the fence jumping, Rowdy is a sweet, loving guy looking for the perfect family. He would do very well in a home with children and/or another dog. If you are looking for a best friend, you can find it in Rowdy!

Brutus 0408

My name is Brutus (3years) and I was picked up by animal control for repeatedly roaming loose in my neighborhood.  When my owners were contacted they said they did not want me.  As it turns out, that was a good thing because they did not take good care of me.  My right front leg had been broken and it was left to heal on its own.  Because of that, my leg is permanently crooked and I limp. I am able to get around okay but my leg cannot be fixed.  When my foster mom brought me home I was so dirty and my ears were full of ticks.  I felt so much better after my bath.  I am very friendly toward adults/kids and other dogs.  I like to play with people and other dogs but I'm also happy just relaxing on the floor.  I am crate trained and still working on my potty training.  Please consider giving me the only thing I have ever wanted, a family who loves me!

Dozer

Dozer.jpg  Dozer2.jpg  Dozer3.jpg

I am Dozer. I am a 10 month old fawn boy and quite the looker. Just look at this beautiful mug. I am a very submissive boy and get along very well with other dogs. We don't know about cats yet. I am also housetrained and crate trained. I need to be in a home with a dominate figure and no children, I have a problem with pack order and must know exactly where I fit in.

JOJO

    JoJo  JoJo

JoJo  jOjO

3-4-08  JoJo has been returned to rescue.  He will not be placed with young children.  He will need a strong owner who will not let him get away with anything.  His new owner needs to be familiar with boxers and training.  JoJo has a problem of realizing where he fits into the pack and will try to take over if he doesn't respect his owners as the pack leader.  He will need direction and any unruly teenager.   It would also be best that he is the only dog in his new household.

Meet JOJO. He is approximately 11-18 months old and is a beautiful dark brindle boy. It is a little hard to distinguish his real age because of the condition he came in.  He came into care very malnourished, full of parasites but has begun the road to recovery. He has been fully vetted, neutered and had a small tumor removed on his scrotem.  He is starting to feel better each and every day. He appears to be housetrained, crate trained, and is displaying good manners. He seems to get along fine with other dogs and even the kitty, but he is not feeling well right now so we will post whether this changes or not. We will post more about JOJO as we learn. Please check back on him.

Charlie - Special Needs

Charlie1.JPG  Charlie3.JPG

Charlie4.JPG

Charlie2.JPGCharlie is a 3 yr old flashy male who is a special needs boy. He came into rescue from a high kill shelter as a stray. When vetted it was found that he had a broken leg that did not get the attention it needed and it healed wrong. The bones healed slightly off, but it is fully healed and he gets around great. Our vet does not want to rebreak and set since this had been healed for quite some time and there is a chance it may not set perfectly again. Charlie is housetrained, crate trained and has good house manners. He is a beautiful boy who will not be placed in a home with young children, toddlers, or puppies that only want to rough house. He gets along very well with female dogs and is still playful.

Buck

buck.jpg  buck2.jpg

UPDATE 3-31-08:

Buck is doing so good with his manners and he will continue to get better.  When Buck first came into rescue his was very wild acting and had very inappropriate social skills.  I often compared his presence in my house to a bull in a china shop.  Buck is truly a good hearted dog and means no one or other dogs any harm.  He loves to wrestle and play toys outside with the other boxers.  It is taking Buck a little longer to be fully housebroke, but I have no doubt he will get there...he almost is now.  He is perfect in his crate and never barks or cries, even if the other dogs are barking.  He is great with kids of all ages and can definitely tolerate their roughness. He enjoys playing with his human family, relaxing in the spring air, and chewing big rawhide bones.  Buck is more than ready to find his forever home.

JoeBoxer1.jpg  JoeBoxer2.jpg

joe.JPG  joe3.JPG

joe4.JPG12-20-07 Update:
Bucks manners have greatly improved in the last two weeks, and I have no doubt he will continue to make improvements.  He is very eager to please and is ashamed when he gets scolded.  Buck will also continue to work on his potty training which is also getting better.  He loves to play and roam around in the yard by himself or with his dog friends.  He is good with all dogs large and small.  Buck is current on all his vaccinations and was recently neutered, he is ready for his forever home.
This very handson guy is our latest addition to the rescue, we have changed his name to Buck.  He is 1-2 years old and was picked up as a stray.  He is a sweet boy but needs to work on his basic obedience and potty training.  He is crate trained, does well with other dogs, and likes kids. He will be going to the vet next week to be neutered and will be ready for adoption shortly.  Check back soon for updates.

New Pics 4-2-08

Brutus8.jpg  Brutus2.jpg

Brutus4.jpg  Brutus7.jpg

4.2.08 Brutus has really done well with his socialization the past few months. He has done extremely well with both male and female foster siblings. Once Brutus realizes the new sibling is not going to hurt him or ‘his people’ he relaxes and begins to play. Within 24 hours of being introduced to a new sibling he is playing and cuddling with them. He has displayed an extreme amount of patience with his current foster brother who is still all puppy and likes to nibble on Brutus’ ears and lay on top of him on the couch.

12.27.07 We have learned this past weekend that Brutus would prefer to be the only dog in the household or will need a few days of socialization with other dogs. He would not do well with other dominate dogs. He is extremely playful and tends to play rough; though he is able to calm down when told. We have also learned, over the holidays, that Brutus takes about three days to become comfortable and not rambunctious in new surroundings. He continues to be loveable and affectionate. He has done well with the new people he has come in contact with over the holidays.

12.10.07 Brutus has been with us for about 2 weeks now. He is a 2 year old male boxer with natural ears and a docked tail. He is just now getting over Kennel Cough and we are beginning to see his personality. He was also really thin when he came to us, but has a healthy appetite and is putting on some much needed weight. He loves to play and has lost of energy. Sometimes he gets a little rough when he plays and has to be reminded to settle down. He is very strong and strong-willed so he could benefit from some obedience training. Due to his strength, dominate personality and roughness, at times, he would probably do best in a home without small children. He’s extremely affectionate and loves to be next to you at all times. He loves to cuddle and will let you know if he feels he is not getting enough lovin’. He is housetrained and does well when left alone in the house. He got along well with his foster brother before his brother was adopted and ignores the furry friends next door. We, unfortunately, do not know how he is around cats.

ClydeVet1.jpg  ClydeVet2.jpg

9-4-07 Update:  These 2 pics were after his first bath.  He seems to be improving daily in health.  We have had the tumor removed and will be posting more pics during his recoup time.

Newbie.JPG

9-4-07  Clyde has had the large tumor removed and is doing very well.

8-28-07: Our vet Dr. Swagert named him Clyde after one of her older relatives which fits this 10 yr old senior boy perfectly.  We have found out he is Heartworm positive but at his age Dr. Swagert suggests not treating him for it.

This pitiful sweet tempered boy just came into the rescue program 8-26-07 from one of our KY shelters.  He is a medical mess as his shelter picture shows.  We would like to give him the chance to live a normal healthy life, but need your help to do so.  We have not given him a name yet but will shortly.  He will be seen today by our vet to determine what can be done and what treatment procedures to follow.  There is a possibility that he is also deaf.  We will be posting new pictures as he improves with time.

Adoption Donation: Not yet available - Pending vet treatment & surgery.

Hooch is housetrained, crate trained and has good manners.  He gets along well with other dogs but certainly prefers females.  He loves everyone and would make a great companion.  He is smaller in scale, walks well on lead and is just a lover.

Taz

Taz2.jpg  Taz3.jpg

Taz1.jpgTaz is a beautiful 1 year old flashy fawn boy.  He is sporting his natural ears and tail, he will be a big boy.  He is a very beautiful boy who is full of life, very social and loves to play.  He hasn't met a dog yet that he didn't like but they do have to love playing.  He is learning all about housetraining and crate training.  He is very loveable and eager to please, but would greatly benefit from an obedience class.  We are of the opinion that he may not like cats but gets along well with both male and female boxers at his foster home.

Barker

Barker1.jpg  Barker2.jpg

Barker3.jpg  Barker4.jpg

4-3-08 UPDATE:  Barker has decided he doesn't want a home with another male dog.  He does well with females and is a very playful guy.  He prefers to share his home with ladies of the furry type.

Barker is a beautiful white boxer boy of approximately 15-18 months old.  He loves being by your side and watching everything you do.  He came in from a high kill shelter covered in fleas and ticks.  He is fully vetted now and starting to look beautiful again.  He would do best as an only dog, but does love to play with the non-dominate females and the puppies.  He doesn't like dominate male or female dogs.  Cats are unknown as of yet.  He could use an obedience class to teach him a little better manners.  He appears to be housetrained and is etremely loving.  He rides fairly well in a car and is finding out about toys.

Marley-Special Needs

We need your help with Marley's vet expenses!

MarleyHickingTrip.jpg

7-12-07  Marley went on a hiking trip with his foster family.  He sure looks Happy.

7-2-07 Marley is fully ready for his new family.

3-17-07  Here is some new pics of me after I have had eye surgery on the right eye.  I am feeling my wheaties now.  The vet is watching the other eye which may have to be removed also.

Marley3.jpg  Marley4.jpg  Marley5.jpg   Marley6.jpg

2-22-07 Update:  Marley went through his surgery just great and is recouping wonderfully.  He seems to be in less pain and is regaining his spunk.  He is such a dream boy.

Marley1.jpg   Marley2.jpg

Marley came in from a high kill shelter in rural Kentucky 2-2-07 where he was picked up as a stray.  He has a lot of scars and signs of multiple dog bite wounds from when the shelter picked him up.  He would have been one of the first to be euthanized for he has extensive eye problems the shelter cannot afford to correct that we are going to get addressed.  One of his eyes has been ripped and the other is very swollen from possible damage.  He is unable to see out of the ripped eye and may have very little sight in the swollen one, or at least we are praying it is just swollen and that it can be saved.  The one eye will have to be removed and the eyelid stitched shut to cut down chances of infections.  We hope to be able to save the other.  Marley is a beautiful cropped and docked fawn boy of about 2-3 years old.  He is showing us that he is extremely smart.  Overnight he has learned that when the bell rings on the back door that means potty break and will run to the back door to be let out.  He appears to be fully housetrained, gets along very well with the other dogs in the household and has already learned the layout of the house and is not running into things.  He walks extemely well on lead and puts one paw out front to feel his way.  He is very loveable, gentle, and does like to play with toys.  The ladies from the shelter had 3 toys they got him and he is having a ball with them. Thank you ladies for your help in saving him, he will make his new family an exceptional boy.  We will post more about Marley as he progresses.

Adoption Donation: None for the right home that will be willing to see to his special needs.

Gunner-Special Needs

Could use your help with medical care.

3-2-07 UPDATE:  Gunner is waiting for a new home to call his own.  He is filling out very nicely and doing wonderful on his new diet.  Please see updated pics.

Gunner10.jpg    Gunner9.jpg

1-30-07 UPDATE:  Gunner is ready for his new home.  He has turned into one very playful boy.  He loves his toys and wants nothing more than for you to play with him.  He is becoming one very good looking guy, he is filling out and his special diet certainly agrees with him.

1-5-07 UPDATE:  Gunner came home from the hospital 1-2-07 and is doing very well.  He has gotten his playfullness back and is loving every minute of laying on the couch.  He will be a great addition to his new family.

12-28-06 UPDATE:  Gunner was taken into the hospital today and after extensive testing he was determined to have Pancreatitis.  He is currently on IV's for the next few days and is being fed the same way.  He is doing well and should be able to come home 1-2-06.  He will have to be on a special diet for the rest of his life with no outside foods or treats being added to his diet.  The vet cannot be totally sure it will not reoccur, but it is very treatable and manageable.

Gunner4.jpg    Gunner5.jpg

Gunner3.jpg    Gunner6.jpg

We have Gunner listed as a senior male, we are unsure of his exact age because of the condition he is in. Malnutrition can age a dog well beyond their years. We estimate he is between 5-8. He is a very loveable boy who came from the same shelter as Harmony. Everyone worked very hard to get Gunner into rescue and transporting across the state. He is certainly enjoying food and a nice bed to lay his head. He has received his vaccines and is heartworm negative but being treated for several different parasites. He must obtain a healthier level before he can be neutered. We will post more as we learn, currently we are trying to get his hunger appeased.

Adoption Donation: None to the right home that will be able to control his pancreatitis and diet.
