Happy Tails: 2011 Adoptions
Lola ![]() I honestly don't know how to thank all of you for
what you've given me. She has made my life so much better just by being in it. She makes me happy every day, and I consider
myself lucky to have her. With the stress of preparing for graduation and everything else, she has been a bright light that
can always cheer me up. She has such a sweet disposition, and everyone that meets her soon falls in love. The one of her and the big white dog is my parents American Bulldog, Wren. The reason that particular picture is special is because Wren had seizures as a puppy and as a result of that, wasn't socialized as most dogs are. We thought that she wouldn't like Lola, but they're best friends and fit great together. ![]() Oreo: Adopted Oreo is
a cute little 1 year old girl. Just like any young boxer, she is very playful with other dogs and will need lots of exercise.
She walks well on leash and is very gentle. Oreo is also a great listener and knows sit, down, and stay. Adoption Donation: $250.00 Jenni: Adopted Jenni is 1 of 29 boxers seized from her owner for living in puppy mill conditions. We didn’t know it at the time, but Jenni was pregnant. She delivered 7 healthy puppies and was a great mother. All her puppies are weaned and Jenni is looking for her forever family. Jenni has come so far from the terrified, unsocialized dog she was when she came into rescue. When frightened, Jenni always looks around for the people who keep her safe. She has overcome her fear of other dogs, and doesn’t mind kitties either. She is also wonderful with adults and kids. Jenni goes outside to potty, but hasn't learned how to ask to go out….so there are occasional accidents. She is doing better in her crate at night. She is on her way to becoming a very good pet. To watch her jump, run, and play in the backyard is so much fun. It took weeks for us to see any expression but scared or exhausted from Jenni. To see her having fun like a puppy makes her transformation so rewarding! Jenni is being fostered in Florence, KY. Adoption Donation: 250.00
Mighty: Adopted ![]() Mighty is 15 weeks
old, he was born on August 16, 2011. Mighty is already neutered and up to date on all his vaccinations. He is beginning
to learn the signs for his basic commands. He seems really smart and has already learned sit. Owning a deaf dog is no different
than owning a hearing dog, you just communicate in a different way. Mighty is a delight to have around, and gets along
great with the other dogs in his foster home…both large and small. He is good with children of any age. Being a puppy,
Marty is still working on his crate and potty training. Only applicants with a fenced yard will be considered for Mighty….no
invisible fence please. Potential adopters will be required to attend training classes with Mighty after adoption.
Puppies are a big time commitment; please consider your lifestyle demands before applying to adopt Mighty. Adoption Donation: $300.00 Diezel: Adopted My name is Diezel. I am 2 1/2 years old, weight 65 lbs. I have no known health issues. I was born on Dec. 16, 2008. My first human home decided to have a baby; the mother said I had to go. I am a very loving dog, but very bashful around new people. I need a new family with a large yard. I will lie at your feet or stand by you when strangers are around. I also have a loud bark, but only bark when needed. I love to sleep with you in a warm bed. I’m house trained and will also stay in my crate when needed. Diezel is being fostered in Owensboro, KY Zoey: Adopted Zoey is only 19 months old. She currently weighs around 45 lbs & is a petite girl. However, her foster mom is working on getting her weight where it needs to be. Zoey is a little skittish & nervous. Everything still seems new to her, from different sounds to riding in a car & having a family to love her. She takes a little time to warm up to new people, but once she feels safe she is very sweet, affectionate & enjoys love & attention. We are not sure what has caused her to have some sores on her back. The shelter vet suggested that it was caused by having too strong a dose of topical flea prevention that has irritated her skin & caused her hair to fall out. However, we may update this when she is seen by our veterinarian. Zoey knows how to sit for a treat but could use some work with leash walking. Zoey seems to do very well in her foster home who has cats, small dogs, another boxer & children. She loves running as fast as she can in her foster mom’s large fenced yard. We are still learning where Zoey stands with her house training & crate training. Zoey is being fostered in Paducah, KY Adoption Donation: $250.00 Malia: Adopted Malia
is 1-2 years old. Malia has a sweet loving personality. She loves human attention and just wants to be right where you are. She
loves to go for rides in the car and walks nicely on a leash. She gets along well with other dogs, both large and
small. Malia is housebroken and crate trained. She loves children and will do good in a home with children of any age. Adoption Donation: $250.00 Ava: AdoptedAdoption Donation: $250.00Heidi:
Adopted Heidi is estimated to be 3-4 yrs old, she
was another boxer posted on Craig's List. Heidi has obviously been bred repeatedly in her young life & came
into rescue with a skin staph infection that had caused much of her hair to fall out. Her hair has come back in beautifully after
receiving a good diet and a round of antibiotics. Heidi does very well with everyone young & old although
she is quite strong & pulls while on leash. Heidi gets along with all the dogs in her foster home both male/female
and large/small. She is housetrained & has good house manners. Heidi should fit easily into almost any home. Her
foster family raves about her being the very best foster dog they've ever had & have nick named her "Mrs.
Kisses". Heidi is being fostered in Paducah, KY Adoption Donation: $250.00
Duchess: Adopted Duchess
is a typical 6 month old boxer puppy. She has lots of energy and will need an active family. She is housebroken and crate
trained. She gets along well with other dogs and will do good in a home with older children. We will post more details as
we continue to learn all about Duchess. Adoption Donation $300.00 Toby:
Adopted Meet Toby, he is a 4 month old terrier mix. His family never came to pick him up after boarding him at a Louisville vet clinic. Instead of letting him go to the shelter, BlueGrass Boxer Rescue has agreed to help him find his forever home. Toby is a great dog and appears to be housetrained. He gets along well with both cats and dogs. Toby is also crate trained. Toby will fit nicely into almost any home. Toby is being fostered in Louisville, KY, Adoption Donation: $200.00 Rambo: Adopted Rambo is 4 years old. He has lived with an untreated injury to his left front leg for some time. It was most likely broken but never casted. Being left to heal on its own must have been extremely painful for Rambo. However, this boy is so happy to be in his foster home. He loves children & toys. Rambo does well with both the female & male boxers in his foster home & has done well with small dogs in the park. He has the typical high energy level of a boxer, likes to stay busy & likes to be with people. Rambo is housetrained & crate trained although he doesn't require being crated. He doesn't chew on anything besides his dog toys. He will sit on command & is learning other basic commands & house manners. Rambo pulls quite a bit on leash & will probably do best working on this with a harness or head halter. This boy is full of personality & fun. All he needs is a forever family to love & entertain! Rambo is being fostered in Paducah, KY Adoption Donation:
$250.00 Maggie: Adopted Maggie is approximately 2 years old. She has a very sad story and is so lucky to be alive. She was purchased by her former owner to be breed. Maggie was unable to delivery her puppies and was going to need a c-section. Her owner did not want to pay for the c-section and requested Maggie and her unborn puppies be euthanized. Luckily, the vet clinic that was treating Maggie refused to euthanize her and contacted Bluegrass Boxer Rescue. We happily took Maggie and her newborn puppies into our foster program. Maggie’s puppies are weaned and she is looking for her forever home. She is housebroken and crate trained. Maggie does great with other dogs (large/small) and with kids of any age. She craves attention so much, and regularly has her head resting on your leg. Maggie will fit nicely into almost any home. Maggie is being fostered in Florence, KY Adoption Donation: $250.00 Blade: Adopted
Adoption
Donation: $225.00 Mikey: Adopted
Mikey is being fostered in Paducah, KY Adoption Donation: $250.00 Chester: Adopted Adoption Donation: $225.00 Trooper: Adopted Trooper got his name because he has been a trooper during his short life. At 7 months old he was hit by a car and found by a local farmer. Time was of the essence, so another boxer rescue rushed Trooper to the vet for life saving surgery. Unfortunately, his leg was lost, but his life was saved and he was neutered. It was also determined that Trooper was deaf. Despite the owner’s neglectful care of Trooper, they were looking for him. Trooper’s owners wanted him back, but refused to help pay for his lifesaving surgery. We all feared the worst for Trooper, being a deaf 3 legged boxer living outside. Trooper would be picked up by animal control 2 times before he was in rescue for good. This last time, his owner finally surrounded him to a kill shelter. Lucky for Trooper, we were there to save him one last time. This time around, his was very emaciated, and heartworm positive. He also had intestinal parasites and an old wound on his head. Today, Trooper is approximately 3 yrs old. He is very gentle & friendly with people & other dogs. He loves to play with toys of any kind & his foster siblings. He is learning some signs & making progress on becoming house trained. Trooper is doing well with crate training. His foster family has nicknamed him "Three-wheeler". He is a joy to have around. He follows his foster mom everywhere so he can keep his eye on her & enjoys snuggling up to his foster family for a nap or some one on one attention. Trooper will be undergoing treatment for heartworm disease shortly. He should suffer no long term effects as a result. A fenced yard will be required. Trooper certainly deserves his “happily ever after”…..is that you? Nellie: Adopted Nellie is a pretty reverse brindle girl that got out of the shelter just in the nick of time. Luckily, an urgent notice from Barktown Rescue appealed to one of our rescue volunteers who could help get her out one day before she was to be euthanized. Nellie is a very energetic & playful girl. She really enjoys playing with balls, other dogs, older kids & adults. She likes to box & can play rather exuberantly with adults. She knows Sit & Down commands. She is learning about crate training & beginning house training. Nellie needs her human to be a strong pack leader as she can tend to push the boundaries occasionally. Nellie will do best in the hands of an experienced boxer owner. We are in the process of getting Nellie's vetting up to date, an age estimate & her spay done. Check back soon for updates on Nellie. Nellie is being fostered in Paducah, KY Adoption Donation: $250.00 Ryder: Adopted Ryder
is approximately 3 years old. Unfortunately for him, he is heartworm positive. Ryder has begun his heartworm treatment and would
love to have a home waiting for him when his treatment is completed. Ryder is housebroken and crate trained. Although he is
crate trained, he is not very fond of being put in his crate. Ryder is good with other dogs, both male and female. He is also
good with cats. Ryder is continuing to work on his basic manners, but should fit nicely into almost any home. Diesel: Adopted Diesel is 2-3 years old and weighs 55 pounds. He
is housebroken and crate trained. Diesel gets along well with other dogs, both male and female. Diesel knows his basic commands.
He loves sleeping with his foster parents, but is also content on a dog bed. Diesel is pretty laid back for a boxer and is good with children of any age. He walks well
on a leash with a little correction. Diesel will fit nicely into almost any home. Adoption Donation: $250.00 Donner: Adopted Donner
is brand new to rescue, we will be posting an update soon. Izabella: Adopted Iza has been with the rescue
for two years and is now 3 years old. She is a very petite white boxer, who was initially an owner surrender when
her family decided she didn't listen very well. It turns out that she was deaf. Iza has no other known medical
issues. In December 2010, Iza earned her AKC Canine Good Citizen certification. Since Iza is deaf, she was also
taught sign language. She is a huge cuddler and loves nothing better than to be in your lap. She also loves to play
and will frequently get the "boxer zoomies" and run full-speed around the yard in circles until she wears
herself out. She is a very smart girl and will tell you when she needs to go outside. Iza does like to put her paws
on the counters and table. We are working on breaking her of this habit. Other than that, she is a perfect dog!
A lot of people have reservations about adopting a deaf dog, but she actually minds better than the hearing dogs in her foster
home. The sign language she knows is very simple to learn, and she uses some of the same hand motions that most hearing dogs
already know. Will you please consider giving Iza a new forever home? You will not be disappointed! Beaumont: Adopted
Chans:Adopted
Chans
is approximately 2 ½ years old. He is a wonderful Boxer, and even knows some tricks. He also likes
to just lie around the house. He listens very well and will come when called. Chans is housebroken and crate trained. He gets

off the table, nor will he get in your face when eating. All he really wants is a loving family so he can
be near you all the time. Adoption Donation: $250.00 Sultan: Adopted Sultan

are still in the process of getting to know Sultan and will post more details soon. Adoption Donation: $300.00 Lucy: Adopted Lucy is a boxer mix & is approximately 1 yr old. She weighs only 38 lbs & probably is done growing. Her smaller size & child friendly personality make her a great choice for family with younger children. Lucy was a stray that hung around a grocery store until a concerned individual picked her up & tried to locate her owner. She is very friendly & affectionate. Lucy loves to play with kids, other dogs & toys. She enjoys running in the fenced backyard & chasing, dragonflies, butterflies, bees & birds for fun. She responds to the Sit command, is crate trained & working on housetraining. Lucy walks fairly well on leash & enjoys riding in the car. Lucy is still in the chewing stage & will chew on household items if not given chew toys or supervised. Lucy is being fostered in Paducah, KY. Adoption Donation: $200.00 Winnie: Adopted Miss Winnie
is a beautiful 1 year old brindle Boxer girl. She was rescued within minutes of being euthanized. This little girl is
very smart, she is already potty-trained, house-trained and has learned how to "sit" and "hug!"
She is getting along well with her foster brothers and beginning to trust them more and more each day!! She is also
learning how to eat bones and treats as well as learning how to play with the boys and their toys! Winnie came into
rescue very emaciated, starving not only for food but for love & affection. She doesn't want her foster mommy
to get out of her sight, so she sticks by her side and tags along everywhere!! This little girl LOVES to
go for rides in the car, cuddle, and be rocked!! She also does very well at bath time!! Winnie is Heartworm
negative & will be ready for her forever family after she gains a few pounds and is able to be spayed!! Luna:

Dixie: Adopted Dixie is a petite 5 yr old female who had a very rough life before coming into

in Louisville, KY Adoption Donation: $250.00 Jack Jack is a very sweet, well behaved older gentleman. His age is difficult to gauge due to malnutrition
& an injury he sustained to his head. The injury is possibly from being hit by a car. Now that his nutrition &
health problems have been corrected, he has been full of energy & playfulness. Even with the right side of his face
being paralyzed , and his right eye having to be closed up, Jack enjoys playing with tennis or any kind of ball &
other dog toys. He always greets his foster family with excitement & happy energy. He has no difficulty eating
his dry food. He is housetrained (he will go to the door & lightly bump the door knob with his nose to indicate
he needs out) & crate trained although he doesn't care to be, nor does he require being crated. Jack gets along
well with all the other dogs, both male & female, in his foster home. He loves everybody, except CATS
and PUPPIES, but is gentle with children. Jack has very good house manners & greets people nicely without jumping
up on them. Jack knows sit, shake (with either paw) & he walks well on leash. Once he bonds to you & is
familiar with his surroundings he is very reliable to be outside off leash & obeys verbal commands immediately.
He loves to go "Bye-Bye" with you & will whine or bark if he is left behind, so of course, he rides well
in the car. Jack has some separation anxiety & will do best in a home where someone is there with him a great
deal of time such as a stay at home mom, retired person or someone who works mostly from home. He is a very spry fellow:
he can jump up in the back of a pickup truck or on your bed if you allow him. He'll buck & bounce around when
it's meal time or just because he's happy to see you. Jack is a loyal & fun companion & has
a lot of love to give. He is microchipped, neutered, & up to date on vaccinations & heartworm prevention. Jack is being fostered in Paducah, KY Adoption Donation:

Keenan will fit nicely into almost any home. Adoption Donation: $250.00 Gracie: Adopted I am a
sweet, healthy, and energetic flashy fawn girl. I am 2 years old and have lived with my family since I was a puppy.
I love to lounge on the couch and snuggle in bed. Since I’m a young girl, long walks or other exercise are a must.
My current family consists of 4 humans, a 7 year old female cocker/terrier mix, a 4 year old pointer mix, a cat and a guinea
pig. My canine sister and I both share strong personalities and are now having reoccurring conflicts. My family
sought out professional help, but has not been able to resolve our problems. To keep us safe and
stress free, they have made the heartbreaking decision to find a new home for me. I get along wonderful with children, male
dogs, and the family cat. Because of my recent problems with my sister, I must go to a home without other female dogs.
I’m crate trained, but do well out of the crate for a few hours while my family is away. Please help me and my
family find a new forever home that will love me just as much as they do! Adoption
Donation: $250.00 Charlotte: Adopted Charlotte is
a very special girl and is looking for a very special adoptive family. She is ready to find a forever family who will spoil

a kind voice, and a gentle hand are luxuries Charlotte has never enjoyed. She is quickly learning all about crate and potty
training. She is good with all dogs, cats, and kids. Charlotte will fit nicely into almost any home. All Charlotte really

a female dog or a submissive male dog. Potential adopters will be required to attend training classes with Carlo after adoption. Puppies are
a big time commitment; please consider your lifestyle demands before applying to adopt Carlo. Berkley: Adopted Berkley

Bell has been bred several times, and is just learning what it means to be a member of a family. She is enjoying her
new life and loves all the attention she can get. Trae: Adopted Trae is
a very special girl and we are so glad to have her in rescue. Trae is special because she has 3 legs. She was picked us as
a stray by a local KY shelter. Her left hind leg had been amputated before coming to the shelter. Trae’s history
is unknown. What we do know about Trae is that she is approximately 2 years old, and is not slowed down by having 3 legs.
She is housebroken and crate trained. Besides having 3 legs, Trae is a typical young boxer. Rocky: Adopted Rocky is being fostered in Paducah, KY Marty: Adopted Marty

learned to sit for a treat since coming into rescue. She loves to cuddle up with you on the couch or bed if you let her. Paris
is very playful with her foster siblings. Paris is housetrained & crate trained. Paris is being fostered in Paducah, KY. Annie: Adopted Annie

siblings. She also enjoys taking walks with her foster mom and going for rides in the car.
Pebbles: Adopted My name is Pebbles and I’m just 9 months old.
My owner was moving to an apartment and dumped me at the animal shelter. Lucky for me, I only had to stay for a few hours
before my foster mom picked me up. I’m such a good girl for a young puppy. I’m doing great
on my potty training, but will need a little more work in that area. I like my foster mom to go outside with me when I need
to potty. I like playing outside, but I like it when someone is outside with me. I get along great with all my foster siblings,
which includes large and small dogs. I’m not crazy about my crate, but I will settle down when it is time to go to bed
at night. If you think you might be interested in adopting me, remember puppies are a big time commitment. Please consider
your lifestyle demands before applying to adopt me.

Donation: $200.00 Josie: Adopted Josie is about 3yrs old and very petite. She has been in rescue for about 3 weeks, but we waited to post her due to how emaciated she was. She was found chained to a tree with 2 other dogs. Just in the 3 weeks she has been with her foster family, she has gained 8lbs and is loving life indoors! She is getting along well with her foster sisters and brother. We are making good progress with her living with a cat as well. Josie is also learning her basics commands, such as sit and stay. She is housebroken and crate trained. Josie is looking for her forever home where she is a part of the family. Adoption
Donation: $250.00 Lilly: Adopted
Lilly is a sweet young girl of 2-3 years. Upon coming into rescue we learned she had a dislocated hip. Lilly quickly underwent orthopedic surgery to remove her femoral head. Lilly’s operated limb is slightly shorter than prior to surgery, but this does not cause her any functional problems. Lilly is a very sweet girl and enjoys lounging around the house or relaxing outside. She will do well in a home with kids of any age. She gets along well with her foster siblings. Lilly will need to be in a home without cats. Lilly is fully potty trained and working on her crate training. To learn more about the Canine Good Citizen Program check out the following website: http://www.akc.org/events/cgc/ I’m a 50 pound lap dog who LOVES to give kisses. My name is Ziggy and I’m a 4 y.o. deaf boy. I recently
earned my AKC Canine Good Citizen certification. I am one of the sweetest boys you will ever meet. Despite what you might
think, I live my day to day life just like a hearing dog. The only difference is how you communicate with me. I know all my
basic obedience signs instead of verbal commands. People don’t even know I’m deaf if you don’t tell them.
I get a long great with other dogs….large and small. I love to play and get vocal when I’m having fun. I
do have my natural tail which is quite obvious in my pictures. I am crate trained and housebroken. I’m great with
kids of all ages too!!! Rudy: Adopted Rudy was recently introduced to his new life….a life apart of a family. Rudy, who is deaf, is approximately 1 year old. He is a little shy and uncertain in his new surroundings, but is slowly warming up to his foster family. His favorite “spot” is sitting under his foster mom’s desk, where he feels safe. He lies there and watches while she is working around the house. When she sits down, he will come over and sit next to her. He will sit right in your lap if you let him. Rudy is very well behaved and will not jump on adults or kids. He is still working on his housetraining, and basic manners/commands. He fusses a little after being put in the crate, but quiets down in just a few minutes. He is just starting to initiate play with the female boxer in his foster home. We will post more details about Ruby as we learn all about him. Adoption Donation: $250.00 Bruno and Gabby: Adopted Gabby and Bruno are a bonded pair who were surrendered to us by their owner. Because of this, Gabby and Bruno will be adopted together. Bruno is a flashy mahogany fawn. He is 4 years old and very active. Bruno loves playing with balls, toys, and with Gabby. Gabby is a 2 year old reverse bindle. They both can play a bit rough with each other, but they really love each other. Gabby loves giving kisses and you can hear her tongue trying to lick you. Gabby’s manners are a little better than Bruno’s, but they are both very good dogs and extremely lovable. Gabby and Bruno were kept outside for awhile at their former home, but found they much prefer being inside with you. Both are house trained and crate trained. There was a 2 year old child in the home of their former family. Because of their activity level, they would probably do best in a home with children 5 years and up. They both get along well with other dogs, but cats are unknown. Bert and Ernie: Adopted Bert is fawn with a white face, and Ernie is fawn with a black and white mask. Both were seized from their owner by animal control. Bert and Ernie are very friendly boys, but will need work in regard to potty training, crate training, obedience, leash walking, and basic manners. Being brothers, Bert and Ernie are both 10 months old. They can be adopted together or separately. Puppies are a big time commitment; please consider your lifestyle demands before applying to adopt Bert or Ernie. Adoption Donation: $300.00 each Taylor: Adopted Taylor
and her 6 siblings were dumped by a breeder at a high kill shelter. Without immediate rescue, they
all were going to be euthanized. Once in our care, they all tested positive for parvo. Four of the seven pups survived the
parvo and are doing well. Taylor loves to run and play with the other dogs. Her housetraining is also getting better.
She will run to her crate when it’s time to eat and will wiggle her whole body when getting attention. She loves
toys of any kind.
