BlueGrass Boxer Rescue Adoption Updates This page is dedicated to all the boxers who have been adopted from BGBR over the years.
We love getting updates from our adoptive families and seeing pictures of the boxers who once lived in our homes. Many of
the dogs have made drastic transformations, which is a constant reminder of why we rescue. These reminders motivate us to
keeping doing the work we so love. Our rescue work is both emotionally and physically challenging, and
we are so appreciative of the stories and pictures our adoptive families share with us.
Carly
Carly was adopted in the spring of 2010 and lives in Perrysburg, Ohio
Carly has had a really wonderful summer. She has been to the lake many times but still isn't a water dog!
We are able to at least get her standing in the water so that we can give her a quick bath, but then she is off and ready
to chase any small animal she can! Everyday we still see her getting more and more comfortable and she now almost
all Boxer - at little crazy, but ready to lick your face off. We have started school again and she is back in the swing
of taking the kids to school and picking them up. She really enjoys her morning and night walks and has been able to
adjust to townhouse life - maybe better than we have! We can't thank you enough for the love and care you gave to
Carly, can't even imagine what could have been her fate if you were not there for her and now she means everything to
us. We all love her so much. We are sending along a photo of Carly on the pontoon boat for the Fourth of July
boat parade - it is always one of our favorite events of the year and she really loves pontoon boat rides!
Thanks again! Amy, Rob, Bryce, Paige, Blake and..... CARLY
Megan and Dane Megan
and Dane were adopted in Dec. of 2009, and live in Lexington KY
Megan and Dane are great. They haven't fought in months and have actually gained a few pounds. They play
constantly and love to run up and down the back fence with our neighbor’s dogs. We try to get out to red river gorge every couple
weeks to hike around. They love that.
Brutus Brutus was adopted in August
of 2010, and lives in Cincinnati Ohio.
Brutus is doing great - is healthy and is already so much of our family! We took him to Kellogg Dog park the other day
- and he had a ball so we are going to join for the year! He LOVES all the kids’ friends and they love him and he's
wonderful with all the neighborhood dogs. He's a sweetie!
Layla Layla was adopted in the spring
of 2010, and lives in Cincinnati Ohio.

Oh, Layla...what can we say besides the fact that we feel like she has been her for years!! She has
continued to just settle right in to our home and we love her to death. She is still crated when we leave the house
but has graduated to our bedroom at night. She is such a snuggle bug so we have to remind her nightly of where her bed
is. Then the alarm goes off in the morning and she hops right on to the bed to make sure we really get up (or to snuggle
up). She has a few nicknames now...Yoda (the ears), snags (her right lip gets tucked under a tooth all the time)
and the whirling dervish (her constant spinning is so funny). She and Max continue to get along and play well with each other.
We are so very happy that she has come into our lives and couldn't imagine life without her. Thanks again for everything.
Addy Addy was
adopted in Aug. of 2010 and lives in Albion IL.

Tank

Tank the Brindle pup grew up so beautifully. He has a little sister now – Bella
Belle (formerly Isme) Belle was adopted in the summer of 2010
I thought you'd enjoy these pictures of Ben, Belle and me at home. She's a total sweetheart and everyone
loves her. Thank you so much for saving Boxer Belle (aka Isme)!
Fondly, Virginia,
Dave, Ben & Belle
Booker (formerly Tito) Booker was adopted in May 2010
and lives in Granger, IN.
We just love Booker so much! He's such a great dog! He is
very well-behaved, gentle, and just so sweet. He's such a lover, and I think he's really happy with us too.
The worst thing he does is walk in my flower beds (but we think he likes to lay in the cool dirt, under the trees) and he
does bark at other dogs that are walking by, but we're going to work on that. He definitely knows his name and he
quickly learned to ring the bell that hangs from our back door when he wants to go outside. We are just so happy with
him and our decision to adopt from your organization
Adam
This is Brutus (a.k.a. Adam) and his sister Bailey! He is weighing in at a whopping 80+ lbs now (he was 70lbs when
we got him) and we couldn't love him more. His little (in stature only :-) sister Bailey is absolutely obsessed with him
and he is so very patient with her. I am so thankful we came out to Kelly's house that day! We thought we were going there
to take home a different boy, but we ended up finding our Brutus - who was probably the last one you all would have
expected to go home with us that day. It just goes to show that no matter what they say about "rescues" and the
issues they supposedly have and the bad habits "you'll never break," when paired with the right match and given
the right amount of love, you might just end up with the best dog you have ever had. I'm so glad I decided to give it
a shot even though I was so nervous about bringing another dog into our home and potentially being overwhelmed. Now I cannot
imagine our world without him. Thank you again for all that you guys do! Thank you again! Lyndsey
Layla Layla was adopted in May 2010
and lives in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Layla is settling in greatly
and our first week with her has been pretty smooth. She and Max have learned how to play with each other well (however
we have found that bones of any kind are not a good idea. Layla gets very possessive of them). We have decided
to hold all bones until she feels more comfortable. Her vet visit was today and, besides a minor ear
infection, all was well. Bradford said she was a little uncomfortable there but no major issues. We
thought you would enjoy a few more shots of her. You can see she and Max enjoy their snuggle time and we just love her
way-too-large-for-her-mouth tongue! Thanks again for everything! Cindy
Riley Riley was adopted in Feb. 2010 and lives in Lexington, KY
 Then Now
Riley, Murphy, and I are approaching our two month
anniversary. It is hard to imagine that a few short months ago, the pictures below are what my baby girl looked like
– it breaks my heart to see these photos! BUT, thanks to God and the wonderful people at the Bluegrass Boxer Rescue,
Riley is as good as new. If not for the remaining scars you would never believe she had been attacked. She is
the most outgoing, loving, and intelligent girl EVER!! J I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that if my life had been
just a fraction as difficult as her first year was, I would not be so open and trusting! I am convinced the Lord gave
us dogs to teach us how to forgive and love! The name Riley means “valiant warrior”, how fitting for my
baby girl! I call her “mine”, but in all actuality, I am hers! J She has brought such joy into my
life (and Murphy’s). Murphy is a real “dog’s dog” – so having a sister to play with has
enriched his life and made him an even happier boy than before.
I have so enjoyed spoiling Riley. As a matter
of fact, even after spending well over $100.00 on a new crate, I couldn’t bear to put her in it. So, she has been
staying out in the house with her brother while I am at work, and they have done GREAT!!! I have only come home to two
accidents since I have had her. She has decided she enjoys chewing on my outside shoes, but has been so kind to leave
them in good enough condition for me to wear! J Also, even though Riley was used to being crated at night, I couldn’t
very well have her in her crate while Murphy was in the comfy bed. So she, of course, got to sleep in the bed with us.
That was quite an adjustment since Miss Riley is more restless, and a MUCH earlier riser than Murphy and me. However,
about three weeks ago, to my surprise and delight, they remained on the couch rather than following me to bed – and
that is where they have been sleeping ever since. Now mom has the bed to herself! JJJ
In case
you can’t tell, I could not be happier to have (or feel more blessed by) my sweet Riley! Bluegrass Boxer Rescue
is now my favorite organization in the world – thanks SO much for the work you do! J
Sincerely, Murphy, Riley, and Gina
Abby

I just wanted to forward
a few pictures of Abby “Betty Paige” with her homemade birthday cake, opening one of her presents, trying to open
one of my daughter’s presents (she thinks that ALL presents are hers now!) and Abby & Asa resting on the couch.
She is such a sweetheart. I couldn’t imagine life without her! Just wanted to thank you all again for your
rescue organization. Thanks, Dawn
Jesse
My family and I can't thank you enough for letting Jesse become a part of our family! She is a total mama's
girl and loves to follow me around all the time. I just love it! The last few days she has started showing a little more of
her playful side. The boys enjoy playing with her and even wake up a littler earlier to go out in the backyard with her before
they leave for school in the morning. She is just so wonderful and I still believe that we won the dog lottery!
Thank
you so much! Brent, Hannah, Brayden, Zane, Ethan, and Grayson
Sadie
I wanted
to send you some updated pics of Sadie. I adopted her last year from Glenda and Gary. She is the best dog in the world. It's
amazing how lovable and wonderful she is. She truly is a best friend.
My boyfriend moved in and he and I argue over
who Sadie loves more. We took her to doggy classes at Superdog and she was voted the most improved by far. With
a lot of training and treats, Sadie can now go on a walk with no leash. She loves kids and plays well with the cat.
We are thinking of getting another one and I will definitely adopt from you guys if we do. Thanks again for doing what you
do and bringing this little girl into our lives.
Sincerely, Brandy
Katy Katy was adopted in 2008 and
lives in Dayton, OH.
 Katy (formerly
Sadie) is doing great! In mid-December she graduated from Basic Obedience class with Dayton Dog
Training. I hope to get her into an Attention course in the Spring or Summer when it's warmer up here. She
loved chasing the snowballs and racing around the dog park in the snow. She'd stop every few steps and take a few bites
of snow, as if she's supposed to clean up all the snow or something. What a goof! I have moved back in with my parents
to take a job in my hometown. She brings a smile to my whole family (who claim to be "cat people" and not to be "dog people"). Katy and I spend every other weekend
with my boyfriend in Bowling Green, OH. She is so good in the car, and enjoys the pampering with toys at both homes and dog
parks in both towns to explore :) My mom still calls Katy her "Granddog". Hoping to get her a home with a yard in
the next couple years, and she does so well with our friends dogs we'd love to get her a friend once that yard is in place!
:)
Thank you Bluegrass Boxer Rescue! We think of you often for rescuing our beautiful girl and keeping her safe
until we could find her and bring her home! Morgan, Michael, and Katy
Julep Julep was adopted in March of
2010 and lives in Ft. Knox, KY.
 Since
it's been about a month since we brought Julep home, I thought I'd send you another update. She's doing
very well! The vet recommended that we bump up her food quite a bit, and I feel like she's definitely
gaining weight. We have yet to stop by and weigh her, but I'd
guess she's gained another 3 lbs. or so. She's really starting to gain more confidence, too, and her personality
is starting to shine. She can be quite feisty in the mornings sometimes and is giving Koa a run for his money!
:)
We found out Tim's next assignment was changed (which we're thrilled about), so we'll
be headed to North Carolina this summer instead of Kansas.
We decided to start house hunting and took a weekend trip a few weeks ago. Julep and Koa stayed at a "Bed
and Breakfast for Pets" during our trip, and I think the couple took special care of Julep after knowing her
history. I was worried that she'd be anxious and upset all weekend, but we got a great report. Julep
loved playing with all the other dogs, and she took comfort in having Koa by her side. The couple mentioned
that they were "home base" for each other! Made me smile! All around, I think it was a good social experience for her.
She's also started running with us, and other than shying away from cars that approach from
behind, I think she's really enjoyed it! We've been practicing some basic training, too. She does well
with "sit," "down," and "stay," and we're still working on come.
We did
have a thunderstorm last night and therefore a puppy in bed with us, but we love her very much and are thrilled with
the progress she's made.
Rosie Rosie
was adopted in February of 2010 and lives in Amelia, OH.

Rosie is such a good girl.
This Friday she is going for a half day in a doggie day care, just to get her socialized more, and to run off some of
her excess energy! We are so very blessed to have found your organization
and to you we are grateful for making the right choice for our family. Thank
you! Bob and Diane Buddy,
Rosie and Frank the Cat.
Mac Mac was adopted in March of 2010 and lives in Alton , IL.
Mac went to the vet on Thursday and he weighed in at 66.2 lbs. He has gained 6 lbs, in
2 weeks! I knew we could fatten him up! LOL Anyway, the vet told us he is a European boxer, (we thought he might not be a
full blooded boxer), more of a working class dog than American breed. Bigger stature, head, more calm demeanor and very willing
to please! This is Mac through and through. He is doing great and even more at home now, sleeping with us and chewed up the
TV remote! LOL We love this guy so much and are really glad that the other couple who came and looked at him decided to leave
him for us! Everything happens for a reason! Thanks for everything you
do!!!!!! Dan & Marie
Anna

Anna is doing great. She loves going on long walks and drives to the local dog bakery. She has put
on a couple of pounds which our vet suggested. We have to admit she is a very spoiled little girl who loves going to
the puppy spa to be pampered. Little by little, her seperation anxiety has gotten better, She still
follows us from room to room, but she has started to do things on her own too, and she has begun to love playing. She
has lots of toys that she loves to throw in the air and catch herself. She also loves trips to Starbucks for her "Pup Cup" of whipped cream. We attached a
few pictures of her here including one of her and her "cousin." My brother-in-law and his family adopted Sammie
Grace from BGBR in 2009. The two girls love to play together! Thank you so much
for helping us complete our family! She definitely has added a lot of love to our home. Sincerely, Natalie and Jason
Riley Riley was adopted in Feb. 2010 and lives in Lexington, KY.

Riley and Murphy continue to do well, but I think
Murphy is starting to realize she is staying and is a bit jealous. He loves her, but has been very clingy and needy
with me. I have had to reassure him that because he was here first he will always be my number one boy!! :)
My sister, best friend, and two nieces-in-law came over for dinner and Bible study this evening. They, of course, were
"oohing and ahhing" over Riley as she was sitting in the middle of them. Murphy very quickly jumped up on
the couch, tail wagging furiously, and made his presence known.
We went to the vet today - Dr. Vice loved Riley
and was so thrilled that I decided to bring her home. He said she is remarkable. He couldn't believe how badly
she had been hurt. He took her staples out and said everything looked great. She weighed about 46 pounds - although
I think we didn't get an accurate reading b/c she wouldn't sit still on the scale. Murphy weighed in at
45 and I am sure she has more than one pound on him!
Speaking of weight, they continue to eat side
by side. Murphy has been inhaling his food then going under her and eating the food she drops - it is hilarious to watch.
This morning, he even stuck his head over in her bowl and she let him. I of course made him stop, so he went back to
eating her "droppings". Tonight he wandered over to her bowl again and she gave him a slight growl.
I couldn't blame her though - I would growl if he tried to take my food too!!! I did tell Riley she wasn't
allowed to growl at her brother, but I also made Murphy leave her alone.
It is hard to believe that we have her - I am enjoying her so much!! I have had four days at home with
them, but apparently that hasn't been enough. I am not ready to go off and leave them, so I am "skipping school"
tomorrow!! I think that dog owners should get some time off when they bring a new baby home, just like anybody else
that brings a new baby home! :)
Diesel Diesel is living
Happily Ever After in Paducah, KY!

Paris Paris was adopted in 2008
and lives in Shady Side, Maryland Paris is doing just fine. She has graduated from obedience school--when she is in her rambunctious zone, I still
have to say things more than once--but she is getting better. She loves to go for walks and starts talking to me if
she sees someone pass the house walking their dogs. With the weather he have been having, her walks have been limited.
She was afraid of the snow the first time, but she is over that now.
Buck Buck
was adopted in 2008 and lives in Batesville, Indiana.
We're doing great. Buck is as spoiled as ever but worth every bit of it. He's such a good boy and so smart.
As Stephanie puts it, he's a genius. His new trick is "Leave it." You can put a treat on the floor in front
of him and say "Leave it." Buck will not touch it. He'll lay in front of it until you say "Good boy."
Then of course he laps it right up. This summer he went camping and did great. When it was time for bed he laid down in the
tent and slept the entire night. For Christmas he got new toys, treats, and an organic dog biscuit mix along with a dog bone
shaped cookie cutter. He's doing so good at home that he's never crated and he will stay in the yard with us and not
run away. He loves the car but more than anything he loves Stephanie. He waits for her to get home and follows her everywhere.
I would say his next favorite person would be Tim, which really surprised us because we didn't think he would warm up
to Tim. Really he loves all of us. He's in doggy heaven when he and the boys lay on the floor in a big pile and watch
TV or play video games. He even has his own WII profile. He gets along really well with other dogs. His best friend is Daisy. She's a small Boxer that belongs
to a friend of ours. He's a completely
different dog than when we got him. At first we were skeptical but he's blended in great with our family. I
can't imagine him not being with us.
Happy Jack

Our family
adopted Jack in January, 2009. We had just lost our first Boxer to cancer and Jack proved to be a wonderful addition
to our family. As a 2 year old Boxer weighing nearly 100 pounds, he was a lot of dog but he adjusted well to our family.
It is clear that Jack's first family did a wonderful job with him. He is loving, loyal, obedient, and always happy.
He loves to go for walks and car rides, has playdates with other dogs, loves to chew bones and play with tennis balls, and
is the best at cuddling up next to us on the sofa. We are grateful to Bluegrass Boxer Rescue for bringing Jack to us
and allowing us to adopt him. We feel very lucky!
Michelle, Shen, Madison, & Alex
Gracie Gracie was adopted
in Jan. 2010 and lives in Boonville, IN.

Well it has been one week
since we brought Lilly, whom we now have named, Gracie into our lives. Gracie is just so special. I never had
one that loves toys the way she does. She brings the tennis ball for me to throw and then chases after it as fast as she
can and yes you were right, she will chew on your feet if she is bored with her toys. She has fit into the family so
well. The three of them just have a ball together. They take turns picking on each other and chasing each other
around. She is also always ready for breakfast and dinner. They have been getting us up at 4:00 am so Dan and
I take turns going in on the sectional and lying there and they settle back down until time to get up.
Cash
Cash was adopted in the fall of 2009 and lives in Lexington, KY Cash is doing great, we are working on the kids to not let him jump on them, as we've had a few accidental scratches
on their faces, but it's not Cash's fault, it's them letting him jump. I've got him to the point where
I just have to say "Cash, no" on a firm tone and he looks at me, make the funniest "come on" growl and
lies down. We had to put a baby door on the stairs, because he sneaks upstairs when we are not home, and goes to Christian's
room and steals his stuffed animals!!! One day I came quietly and found him on the bed, hugging (literally) a stuffed
bear and just lying there...he adopted Christian as his "human", so
I think he was missing him. Oh, and you should see Jorge...I cannot describe it...they play wrestling, and if you heard
Cash growling, you would imagine he is killing Jorge, and it's just a game...and then you see them : Jorge sitting on
the couch watching TV and guess who is on top of him, like a little lap dog...yes, Cash... I keep thinking it has been
a blessing the addition of Cash to our family, and I thank you for having him and letting us have him.
Carter
 Carter
is doing really well. I have a new job which allows me to work from home some, so he's lovin' it. He's not
real keen on the cold, and loves a blanket my mom got him.
Riddle Riddle was adopted in the winter of 2009 and lives in Cincinnati Ohio
Riddle, Helen, and I are doing great. He has settled into his new home/routine nicely, maybe a little to
nicely. We are still a very very excited young man but we have learned, for the most part that not a whole lot
of people enjoy an 80 pound puppy jumping on them when they walk through the door. We have also worked on down, stay,
fetch, leave-it, drop-it, come and stay, and how to walk and run on a leash. Overall he has become a great household
pet. He has developed some separation anxiety which the vet and I are working on. He hates being alone. And
he really hates being alone in his kennel. Never could get him to like his crate.
We really enjoy going to the family farm in Indiana and running through the fields and walking in
the woods. We also learned how to swim in the pond, I guess we got tired of watching everyone else splash around,
especially dad; one day we just jumped off the dock and made a swim for it. A little awkward at first but we eventually
got the hang of it, now it is routine. During the fall we trained for a half marathon and Riddle ran up to 8 miles
with me, he could have kept going but that was enough for me. If I could only have half his energy.
I have no problems finding a babysitter for him while I'm on the road, actually
I think some feelings get hurt when I choose one over the other. Helen is the primary babysitter but mom still watches
him a few days a month.
We have had some hiccups on the way like the
time he ate 3 raw chicken breasts that where de-thawing in the sink. That resulted in a trip to the emergency room to
have him throw that back up. I think we both learned a lesson on that one.
